To the Revd the Minister of Holsworthy

Chanter 232B, 453

  1. Residence, curate and lecturer: I reside personally upon my Cure, in the parsonage house. I have no lecturer.

  2. Other benefices: I have no more than this one.

  3. Divine service at other churches: I perform Divine service once every Sunday at the little cure of Hollacombe, as curate, for which I have £18 a year by particular permission and appointment of the Late Bishop.

  4. Frequency of divine service: Divine service is performed in my church twice every Lords day, with a Sermon twice, for much the most part never otherwise indeed unless my weak state of health render it inconvenient, which does not often happen. But the morning sermon is never omitted on any account, except on sacrament sundays (sometimes) & then I always preach in ye afternoon.

  5. Frequency of communion: The sacrament is administered five times in a year Viz: twice at Easter, and once at Whitsuntide Michaelmas & Christmas - communicants from 90 to 40.

  6. Catechising of children: About midsummer, as being the warmest weather and longest days.

  7. Church fabric: The Church and chancel are in as good repair as so old & Bad a Building will admit. The church yard is very Slovenly, lying, in many places 3 or 4 feet high against the Church walls and the pigs get into it shamefully.

  8. Glebe terrier: There is a Terrier properly about forty years ago.

  9. Number of families: There are in the parish about 170 families.

  10. Chapels: There is no such chapel.

  11. Papists, dissenters and meeting houses: There is not one reputed papist in my parish - at present - nor has been since I was Rector, for which I earnestly thank God. nor is there any meeting house, nor (I believe) one dissenter -for which I thank him again.

  12. School, alms-houses, hospital and charitable endowments: There is no school, except a common one for reading & writing nor any alms house &c.

  13. Charity: There is a small donation of Land to be distributed to a few poor persons who are not maintain'd by the parish; and it is duly applied.

Priest's orders and institution: My letters of Institution bear date May 6th 1766 - Those of Priest's orders March ye 18th - 1764.
My address is at Holsworthy - Devon.

I am, with all respect, your Lordships Obt & Devoted Servt
    Owen Lewis Meyrick.
