Chanter 232A, 49
My Lord, I do not reside upon my Cure. I reside in the Parish of Fremington three Miles distant from it, in my own House, which I have fitted up to shelter myself & Family in my Old Age, being weary of the fatigue & trouble, & unable to Support the Expence of removing from one Cure to Another, as I have from Mic[haelma]s 1745 to this time. I had Leave from my Late Lord to reside where I now live, & hope, if I should be so happy as to be continued in my Cure, I shall have your Permission also. But I was presented, to hold it for a Minor, who is now capable of taking it, & should he think it worth his Acceptance (for it is a Small Rectory the extended value not Seventy Pounds a year) I may be called upon to resign it before your Lordship's visitation, and then at fifty Seven I shall have a Curacy to Seek.
Priest's orders and institution: My Priest's Orders are dated September ye 23d 1750
& I was Instituted June ye 29th 1767
And am your Lordship's most obedient humble Servant John Snell, Rector of Hunshaw
Fremington near Barnstaple
