Number of families: Generally about 500, but This is uncertain, as many crowd into this Burrough to be Voters at an Election.
Chapels: We have in the Town a Chapel calld All-Hallows which probably was formerly the Parochial Church: has been lately rebuilt & compleatly repaird: & Service is perform'd in it Wednesdays & Fridays in every week & on Holidays by the Schoolmaster my present Curate. We have Lands left to Trustees, the Head Rents & Fines whereof amount yearly to the value of £12 & upward for the Support of it & the Grammar School adjoining: the management whereof is in the Feoffees.
Papists, dissenters and meeting houses: We have no reputed Papists in the Parish. Here are 3 Meeting Houses: two of them for Presbyterians or Independents: the other for Anabaptists. Mr. Lampart teaches in one of them, Mr: Stevens in the other, & Mr: Adams serves once a month in that of the Anabaptists.
School, alms-houses, hospital and charitable endowments: Mr. Gerard keeps the Grammar School endow'd with £12 per Annum. Here is an Almshouse call'd St: Margaret's & lands left for the Support of the Inhabitants thereof with the Repairs. The management whereof is in the Rector, Portreeve & Churchwardens for the time being.
Charity: There are other Charity Estates belonging to the Parish, in the Management of said Feoffees which are well conducted according to the Wills of the Founders. We have no Parochial Library.
