Parkham, Deanery of Hartland

Chanter 225B, 842-843

  1. Population and dissenters: Sixty five; of these there are no Dissenters of any Sort, except three women Roman Catholicks, whose Husbands & Children are Protestants. There is no Meeting=House, or Dissenting Teacher in this Parish.

  2. Public or charity schools: There is no endowed School in this Parish. The Children of this Parish being generally instructed in Schools, in one or other of the Neighbouring Parishes.

  3. Alms-house, hospital or charitable endowment: There is no Alms=house, Hospital, or other Charitable Endowment in this Parish, except a Small tenement given to ye Use of ye Poor, the income of which is distributed on Every Easter Monday to ye Poor of the Parish. I know of no abuse or Fraud that hath been committed in the management of it.

  4. Residence upon cure: I reside personally upon my Cure, & in the Parsonage House.

  5. Curate: I have no Curate.

  6. Divine service at other churches: No.

  7. Frequency of divine service: <Twice> On every Lords=day with a Sermon in ye Morning, and on Such other days as the Church has appointed.

  8. Frequency of communion: Eight times in the year. Easter being allways one.

  9. Number of communicants: As nigh as I am able to remember three: Score; And all of them I believe, receive three times in ye year. The number that received on Easter day last was {fifty} forty five.

  10. Catechising of children: Yearly, viz, on Sundays in ye Afternoon between Whitsunday, & Michaelmas at which time the Parishioners, with their Children & Servants give all due attendance.

  11. Chapels or chapels in ruins: There is no Chapel, or ruin of any in this Parish.
