Chanter 225A, 56-57

  1. Population and dissenters: There are a hundred & fifty Families in our Parish or thereabouts of these thirty eight are Dissenters. Some are Anabaptists & some Presbyterians. There are three Meeting Houses, and by Inquiry I find all of them are licenc'd. The Teachers in those Houses are Ed: Burford, John Veasy, Tho: Boneshear.

  2. Public or charity schools: No.

  3. Alms-house, hospital or charitable endowment: There is no Alms-house, or Hospital in our Parish. An Annuity of forty shillings was bequeath’d to ye Church Wardens by Henry Preston to be employ’d yearly in repairing ye Church, or relieving ye Poor, as they shall judge most needfull. An Estate of six Pounds per Annum was settled in ye Hands of seven Trustess, viz: Tho: Marwood Esq: James Marwood Esq: John Hutchins Gent. &c. who are to distribute ye clear Profits of ye Estate to such poor as by their Industry shall keep themselves & Family from monthly Relief And I believe no Frauds or Abuses are committed in ye management of them.

  4. Residence upon cure: I reside on my Cure, & in ye Parsonage House.

  5. Curate: My Curate’s name is John French, who resides on his Cure. He has no License for serving my Church, but will wait on your Lordship soon for Priest’s Orders, & take a License for yt Purpose and in all other Respects I believe he is qualified. I allow him thirty Pounds yearly.

  6. Divine service at other churches: No.

  7. Frequency of divine service: On Sundays, Holy-days & on Days of Humiliation & Thanksgiving, with a Sermon in ye Morning & after-noon every Lords-Day.

  8. Frequency of communion: Four Times in the Year.

  9. Number of communicants: We have in our Parish about twenty Communicants And allmost all of them usually receive. But Easter last past there were only Eighteen who communicated.

  10. Catechising of children: Having enjoy’d but an ill State of Health for some years & been not able to do any Duty my self the Catechizing of ye Children was neglected for some Time but since my Curate has liv’d with me, he has taken care to instruct & catechise them once & sometimes twice in ye week. And the Parishioners take care to send the Children to be instructed by him.

  11. Chapels or chapels in ruins: We have no such Chapels in our Parish.
